A leading organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its Finance & Accounting team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. This role sits within the General Ledger function and offers the opportunity to work in a fast‑paced, technical environment supporting UK and European trading entities.
The successful candidate will take ownership of daily accounting operations, month‑end close, and IFRS‑based technical accounting analysis. You will work closely with senior finance stakeholders and be expected to operate independently from an early stage.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger ownership for UK and European trading entities
Lead the month‑end close and deliver accurate IFRS‑based management reporting
Perform balance sheet reconciliations and investigate variances
Oversee daily accounting operations, including journals and reconciliations
Ensure integrity of ETRM/SAP interfaces and resolve discrepancies
Conduct technical accounting analysis for new and complex transactions
Support accounting for energy trading deals, storage arrangements and new business activities
Liaise with auditors and external advisors
Provide documentation for statutory audits and ensure compliance with internal controls
Drive process improvements, standardisation and support system implementation projects
Candidate Profile
Experience
5+ years of accounting experience, ideally in energy or commodity trading
Strong hands‑on experience across end‑to‑end accounting processes
Proven ability to interpret and apply IFRS, especially IFRS 9 and IFRS 16
Qualifications
Qualified accountant (ACCA / ACA / CPA or equivalent)
Skills
Strong technical accounting capability
Ability to analyse complex transactions and propose treatments
Advanced Excel (pivot tables, complex formulas)
Experience with SAP and/or ETRM systems preferred

London (Hybrid) – minimum 3 days per week in the office
